FAQ
- Can I take an IP68-rated phone swimming or diving?
No. Official IP tests are conducted in static fresh water, and the water pressure during swimming or diving far exceeds lab test conditions. Hot showers, saunas and steam rooms should also be avoided, as water vapor seeps past seals more easily than liquid water.
- Does a phone’s waterproof ability stay the same over time?
No. Waterproofing relies on internal rubber seals and protective coatings, which gradually wear down with daily use, drops, bumps and aging. Sealing performance may diminish after long-term use.
- Is it okay to use my phone when it’s raining outside?
For phones with IP67 or higher, light to moderate rain is usually fine for short periods — you can take calls or check messages without panicking. Just wipe it dry afterward, especially the charging port. Heavy, prolonged downpours or full submersion are still risky.
- If I drop my phone once, does it lose its water resistance?
A hard fall can loosen internal gaskets and seals, even if the outside looks fine. It won’t instantly stop being water-resistant, but it’s safer not to intentionally expose it to water afterward.
